Calling all movies fans and cinephiles! Join us for the first-ever edition of Cinema with Comrades, an all-new movie club within NYC-DSA! The Battle of Algiers (1966) is a foundational text of revolutionary cinema that vividly recreates a key year in the tumultuous Algerian struggle for independence from the occupying French in the 1950s. Shot on the streets of Algiers in the Italian neorealist tradition, the film is a case study of revolutionary minded filmmaking centering the movement toward decolonization.
A discussion will follow the screening! Suggested Donation: $10 (Proceeds will go to the chapter!)
